An exquisite complete sardine dish with lid & plate by George Jones. This stunning rare piece of earthenware majolica was treated in the 1870s. These sardine dishes were extremely popular with Victorians to hold small fish or fish paste, a delicacy during the time period. The design of this set features seaweed in the border on the plate and around the circumference of the dish. The lid features three fish laying on a bed of seaweed. The background is a turquoise colour and the interior of the dish is a stunning warm lilac. This piece is in perfect condition and the glaze is fully intact. A truly remarkable piece with the George Jones Stamp on the bottom of the plate.
