This antique confit jar is dated back to 1840, the classic urn shape with two handles would have been used to store food during the winter. Confit jars are only glazed to the top, as there were buried in the ground to store the food over the winter months.
Confit jars typically have a green or yellow glaze. This jar has rich green colour and some glaze missing in areas, adding to the character. There is also a splash of green glaze on the interior, this makes this piece rarer as pieces with imperfections were normally wasted.
